Navigation hints

Check list before departing:

  • Check the weather; learn more about the dangers of changing weather.
  • Notify someone on shore of your approximate return time.
  • Ensure that one of your passengers knows what to do in case of an emergency.
  • Check the pressure of the floats.
  • Check the valves, remove the vacuum cap quickly (and check the anti-back valve closure).
  • Tighten the engine mount - Ensure that the mounting clamps are properly fastened to the Transom-Plate or "Stern".
  • Drag Chain - Be sure that the Drag-Chain (Or cable) is securely attached from the motor to the stern plate.
  • Check that the circuit breaker is functioning correctly.
  • Check the level of fuel remaining.
  • Remember to verify the oil level if your motor has a separate oil reservoir.
  • Secure your tank in the designated space.

Required onboard equipment (refer to the regulations enforced in your area):

  • a life jacket for each person on board.
  • air pump, paddles or oars
  • repair kit, tools for the engine
  • mandatory safety equipment
  • boat registration and your license
